In collaboration with The Swiacki Children’s Literature Festival, Mazmanian Gallery presents Sophie Blackall & Javaka Steptoe. The exhibition features original artwork by both illustrators. There are works by Javaka Steptoe from two books: A Pocketful of Poems, written by Nikki Grimes, 2001 and Radiant Child: The Story of Young Artist Jean-Michel Basquiat, 2016. The paintings included by Sophie Blackall are all from her recent book If You Come to Earth, 2020. Viewers are invited to look closely at the artworks in order to discover the transformation that takes place as the original artworks take their finished form as printed illustrations.
